Aces and Eights
Aces and Eights Poker, also known as Dead Man’s Hand, is a distinctive type of poker game with an interesting, if grim, legend. The year was 1876, and the place was the city of Deadwood, South Dakota. Two men, named Jack McCall and Wild Bill Hickok, were sitting together in a saloon playing, you know it, poker. Things turned ugly quickly when Hickok played a hand featuring two black eights and two black aces. McCall, in a blind and drunken fury, shot the man dead for it. Since then, that particular hand came to be called the Dead Man’s Hand, and provided the inspiration for Aces and Eights Poker, as well as its macabre nickname.
We think Cool Cat Casino is the best spot for Aces and Eights video poker. We also recommend Aces and Eights at Slots of Vegas and Planet 7 Casino.

You won’t need to worry about getting shot when you play today, especially in an online environment. For that matter, you won’t need to worry about relearning the rules of the game itself. Aces and Eights Video Poker should be familiar to anyone who has played their fair number of hands in draw poker. Just make your bet, get your hand dealt, choose which cards to hold and which ones to discard and get dealt some new ones for that winning hand. The only thing you will need to “worry” about are higher odds of walking off with more money!

The key differences between Aces and Eights and regular Jacks or Better poker are the types of winning hands you have at your disposal. Most notably, four-of-a-kind hands with aces or four eights are equal to each other, and of higher rank than most everything else. Only royal and straight flushes can beat them, and even so, they typically have a higher payout than the latter. Below that are four sevens, which is of greater rank than any other four-of-a-kind hand. Besides that, all the other winning hands you should know about are present and in the same hierarchy.
Things are not over after winning a round, though. You always have the opportunity to increase your winnings through ‘Double or Nothing.’ Five cards are dealt, with one face-up as the dealer’s card. Pick from any of the face-down cards, and if it’s higher in value than the dealer’s, you’ll win twice as much money! But if your choice is lower, you lose everything! Choose wisely.
That’s all there is to it! Just add up those aces and eights, and watch Wild Bill grow envious of your fortune.
